Suyen Mosley

Elevating her career to new heights, Suyen has created a film and surfing company, Surf Noir Inc. that spotlights her passion for surfing. “We launched officially in summertime, 2007, but before then, we had a couple of video and film projects that we were circulating around,” said Suyen Mosley. The videos were focused on the growing surfing scene, a burgeoning industry for the African-American community. “One was actually more of an art piece and one was a piece featuring some Black female surfers in Los Angeles.”

Surf Noir Inc. who sometimes partners up with the Black Surfer’s Association on projects, sells T-shirts. They plan on selling surfboards in the near future. The company is multi-faceted. The core group of the company are Mosley, Jason Myers and Marsha Terry. Each of them have their own individual talents that they bring to the mix. Jason Myers is the technological wiz, Suyen Mosley is the creative genius and Marsha Terry is the writing expert. “We realized that there’s a whole surfing community that a lot of people don’t know about here in California and even around the world, actually, ” said Mosley.

They do various productions and publishing as well. They plan on publishing soon a book of blogs by Zia Dejan. “They’re very interesting and very insightful,” she explained. But why should anyone be interested in surfing? “Anybody should surf because surfing is excellent exercise, it’s very peaceful and it’s very spirit refining,” said Mosley.

Today, Suyen often can be seen surfing any number of breaks in Southern California as well as at beaches along the coasts of France, Spain, and Africa. She has continued to pledge her volunteer support to the Masai tribe in Kenya, raising funds and awareness of Masai culture and the preservation of sacred lands.

“Surfing – just being in the water- is very much a mind expanding experience. The sea teaches us respect and humility. If I can help to introduce a slice of that humility and awe to the world through my films it would be a wonderful blessing for the future.” Suyen Mosley is without a doubt one of the People You Should Know.
