Who said that funny can’t be beautiful? Whoever made that claim hasn’t taken a look at Ameona Almund, a comedian, actress and model. And, she has plenty of evidence to support the theory.

Almund, who held the title of Miss Beverly Hills, USA 2006, has appeared at the meccas of comedy in Los Angeles and Hollywood, having performed at the Comedy Store, the Laugh Factory and the Comedy Union. But what was it like to be a Miss Beverly Hills? “Anytime you’re doing anything with Beverly Hills, there’s a type of prestige, so I felt honored to be able to represent that city because it’s one of those cities that’s known around the world,” said Almund. Part of being a Miss Beverly Hills USA involved appearing on several red carpets. “I love red carpets, I love pictures, because I do acting and a I’m a model and in this entertainment business I’ve always loved cameras,” she said. But is she a camera diva? “There’s nothing like a red carpet,” she laughed.

Certainly, Almund has been in front of a number of cameras. She’s done a Verizon print ad for Essence Magazine and appeared in several magazines, including the Black Star News Magazine and The Harlem Business News Magazine. She’s also graced the cover of Urban Sophisticated Beauty Magazine. A model for the Sodalicious clothing line, owned by Tom Fraila, Almund has also modeled for celebrity designer Chochi Fiamengo for the pre American Music Awards celebration party at Falcon in Hollywood. As an actor, she appeared in a movie called “Darkhouse,” playing the part of sexy vampire. She also appeared in a to be released film called “I Owe My Life to Cordon Bleu.” Almund even had a stint as a co host, having appeared on a cable show called “Ying and Yang.” “I do want to have a talk show someday, ” said the 5’5″ comedian, actress and model. When asked about her height, she had a simple but eloquent response. “If I put on heels, I can be 5’9″ really quick,” she laughed. A staple of several runways, she prefers the interaction and immediate feedback from walking the runway versus print. “You have a crowd, you have people and you’re on the runway,” she explained. “You can own the catwalk, it’s live, you get to show yourself off right then.”

Almund has huge plans for her future. She hopes to someday appear in a sitcom. ” I’m a comedic person, I like to make people laugh, a sitcom is one of my big goals,” said Almund, who lists Martin Lawrence, Chris Tucker and Jim Carrey as her favorite comedians. “I just want to be in entertainment, whether it’s acting or modeling, commercials or whatever. One day I’d like to get on the business side, with production or writing. I just love this business altogether. This is what I want to be doing until I die. Hopefully that won’t happen soon.”

With her beauty, style and flair for comedy, Ameona Almund proves that funny can be beautiful. She is one of the People You Should Know.

Ameona Almund will be appearing at The J Spot at 5581 W. Manchester, in Los Angeles on May 6th.
