“We are all Lakers today,” said Clippers coach Doc Rivers in a tearful, televised interview before The Clippers and Orlando Magic basketball game Sunday in the National Basketball Association(NBA). Doc Rivers’ emotion on television mirrored the feelings of The Los Angeles community and basketball fans worldwide upon hearing of the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who tragically died Sunday in a helicopter crash. “The Clippers mourn the sudden and devastating loss of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna,” said Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, in a statement issued by The Los Angeles Clippers. “Kobe, an icon and an institution in this city and this sport, inspired teammates and opponents alike with his commitment, determination and drive. Kobe was a singular figure who left an indelible mark on the community and the world. His family, friends, fans and the Lakers organization are in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss him.”

Journalists, politicians, entertainers and fans alike are all stunned by this turn of events. The Scoop LA has interviewed Kobe Bryant and we found him to be kind, intense and focused.  Details are still evolving, but it is also reported that Kobe’s daughter, Gianna and 7 other passengers were on the helicopter. “I just don’t know what to say,” said Doc Rivers, choking away tears. “The news is devastating, I knew him a long time, he meant a lot to me. He was such a great opponent, it’s what you want in sports.” Rivers continued, giving a poignant message to basketball followers. “I think everybody right now is a Laker fan,” said Doc Rivers. “We are all Lakers today.”
