The Hollywood Bowl 2010
Events — By Buddy Sampson on July 1, 2010 at 1:26 amThe Hollywood Bowl has one of the richest histories of any concert arena in the world. With some of the best perforrmances that have taken place in music history under its belt, The Bowl is undeniably the best venue in Los Angeles to hear music. Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, Faith Hill, Isaac Hayes, The Neville Brothers and countless musical icons have all made historic performances at The Bowl. It’s ambience, sound, location and presence makes it the ideal locale for music.
Some of the artists that will grace the stage include Earth, Wind and Fire, who will perform Friday, September 3rd and 4th and the already legendary Gustavo Dudamel, who will grace the stage, August 1st, performing Bizet’s Carmen.
This year, The Bowl historic tradition continues, starting Friday, June 18th. The Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame Concert takes the spotlight and will induct Donna Summer, The Carpenters and Jean-Yves Thibaudet into its Hall of Fame. The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Wilkins, will perform and it have a tremendous fireworks display. The KCRW World Festival Series continues, and the Sunday June 20th show will feature Baaba Maal with Playing For Change, Yeasayer, Tinariwen and Fool’s Gold. The June 27th show will feature Goldfrapp, Orquestra Buena Vista Social Group, featuring Omara Portuondo and tUnE-yArDs.Talented women artists will electrify the stage. The KCRW tradition continues on July 25th with its Reggae Night, which will feature Jimmy Cliff, Sly & Robbie and Tarrus Riley.
On Saturday, June 26th, the ABBA Fest will take place and it will be a tribute to the famous and historic group. Some of the other highlights for the summer include the Wednesday Jazz Concerts starting July 7th with Femi Kuti & The Positive Force, Terence Blanchard with Lula Washington Dance Theatre and Richard Bona, the July 14th show, with Smokey Robinson and Lizz Wright, the Wednesday July 21st show with Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin, Taj Majal, Keb’Mo, John Scofield and Dianne Reeves. The July 28th show will spotlight big band music featuring the Count Basie Orchestra, the Dave Holland Big Band and the Dave Douglas Big Band. The series continues on August 11th with B.B. King and Buddy Guy. B.B. King performed last year and it was one of the most memorable nights at The Bowl ever.
Some of the other exciting concerts at The Bowl include the Sunday Sunset Concerts, beginning July 11th with A Beatles Celebration, which will feature Patti Austin and Todd Rundgren among others and Rent on Sunday August 8th, featuring Vanessa Hudgens. Classical music lovers will enjoy the Thursday Night series, which will feature the Los Angeles Philharmonic on July 15th performing Bruch, Scottish Fantasy and Mahler, Symphony No 1. And, on July 22, the LA Philharmonic will perform an All-Mozart concert.
These are just a sampling of the terrific concerts that will take place at The Hollywood Bowl. For more information, visit www.HollywoodBowl.com or call (323) 850-2000.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Okay dude, just a quick comment. That Google Adsense advertising is really annoying and destroys your blog, why do you run that kind of stuff? I’m sure it doesn’t make u more than a few dimes a day.
So, I’m gonna help you out here couz I hate to see good quality work destroyed. Check out Oiopublisher.com which is a powerful, easy-to-use script that allows you to run your own ads on you site and you keep 100% of the money. I’m not gonna explain all the features of the script since they have a really nice demo site.
Anyway, I’ve been using this plugin for over a year now and it really makes me some nice money from my website and my advertisers really appreciate the ease of use. It is usually sold for ‘just’ $47 which is a pretty high initial investment for us bloggers.
But since I really enjoy your site, I’m gonna give you one of my coupon codes which enables you to a 10$ discount. You can also share this with your readers if you want to: http://www.thaidy.com/ForFriendsOnly
Just go to that page, and it will show you ‘Special Offer … $10 discount (claim now)’ Just click “claim now” and you saved some nice cash. Keep up the good work, Gertha Knotek!

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
