Terri Nunn has been rocking for over 25 years, and is still moving forward fearlessly, even more dynamic and passionate than ever. Having experienced huge hits with the #1 Billboard song, “Take My Breath Away” from the movie Top Gun, “The Metro”, “No More Words” and more, as well as appearing on numerous television shows, co-authoring a book, and continuously touring and releasing new music, Terri is truly an inspiration to watch. She is an example of a woman in her full positive power, appreciating every day, and empowering others.
Describe what makes you feel in your full positive power as a woman?
Great Sex! Being immersed in creativity; performing on stage and writing music makes me feel alive and passionate.
How would you describe your life’s purpose?
I attend a Goddess Camp, four times per year, that I used to go with my mother to, and it’s continued all of these years. It’s a meaningful retreat where women connect. We choose goddess names, and mine is Goddess Empower. My purpose is to empower people with what I am doing. Be an example to others to do whatever they want to do, and continuing to reinforce that. It helps people to keep hearing it.
How do you stay so passionate about what you do?
By staying open to the new. I love what I do. My music has moved in so many directions: New Wave, Electronic, Trance, and more. I still love it. There are so many endless sounds, which is exciting. I convey messages to people through my music. I’m so inspired by Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac and more; what they had to say, their words.
You’re known as a rock star and as glamorous. Do you feel that you live that way? What’s your life like?
I enjoy having a nice house, but stay home often. I’m not really the rock star partier. I remember feeling like a rock star when some neighborhood kids found out I was working with Billy Corgan, and they were so thrilled.
I do love to dress up for my job to make it special. I recently was a coach and judge on the television show, “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” That truly made me appreciate how wonderful looking good can be. These people on the show put so much effort into their appearance and look amazing. However, I can go to the store with just sunglasses, lip gloss and mascara, but of course, that’s when you get recognized.
How do you feel that you have evolved throughout the years personally and professionally?
Personally, I used to emphasize being truthful, even if it was harsh. I am now kinder and gentler. I know that truth and love are the two greatest powers that there are. The ultimate key is love, which is equally as powerful.
Professionally, I have evolved by being older. It’s been 30 years. I realize I don’t have to be crazy. I used to feel l had to get to the next mountain and climb it and never truly appreciated each mountain, instead of stepping in and enjoying it. You get a lot of achievements, but if you never truly feel them, they are not as meaningful. Now, I do much better being in the “now.” I recently opened for Elton John and I was totally in the now, appreciating every minute. At age 25, I don’t know where I would have been.
Who is your dream partner for a duet?
My favorite singer ever- Chris Cornell of Soundgarden.
How do you stay looking so amazing?
As I get older, I am working out more and more. I have a Masters degree in nutrition, and love clean food. I am a pescetarian (one whose diet includes fish, but no meat) too.
Describe what being a mom is like to you.
Of course it can be demanding, relentless and tough, but it is also one of the greatest love affairs I have ever had. It’s being willing to die for her. It’s completely total, a reason to live.
What do you have coming up?
I’m excited to be touring with INXS all over the nation from New York to Washington D.C. this Summer, including Santa Cruz and Mandalay Bay in Vegas. I am playing with The GoGo’s at Pechanga August 20, 2011. I am also thrilled to be hosting and performing at the Hollywood Bowl September 2, 2011 at a Totally 80’s event. I recently hosted a School Wellness Event at my daughter’s school and am excited about doing more public speaking.
