August 17, 2011- Joni’s Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl featured stellar performances by Herbie Hancock, Aimee Mann, Kurt Elling, Chaka Khan, Cassandra Wilson, Wayne Shorter and others. Each of them did their own interpretations of Joni’s incredible collection. A terrific photographer who has an amazing body of work, Malcolm Ali, took these incredible shots of these amazing artists in concert at the Bowl.

Malcolm Ali has a tremendous body of work. He is working on a book of photography and The Scoop LA is glad to know him. He has taken amazing pictures of the Million Man March, for The Watts Times, along with photographer Michael Riddick for an article written by The Scoop LA’s own Buddy Sampson. He and Buddy Sampson got an amazing scoop when they found themselves in mega-attorney Johnny Cochran’s office right after the O.J. Simpson verdict and have covered and interviewed some of the most influential figures of our time. Malcolm has the distinction of photographing politicians, actors and many, many celebrities and historical personalities.

A quiet, unassuming type, Malcolm Ali is a hard worker who is not afraid to get in the trenches and get sensational shots. We are proud to feature his shots of Joni’s Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl. Look for more in The Scoop LA for this incredible soul, friend and fantastic photographer.

Cassandra Wilson was simply amazing. Perhaps the best singer of the evening, Wilson displayed her range and power and was captivating. Photo by Malcolm Ali.

Chaka Khan seemed a little uncomfortable while speaking on the microphone, but when she sang, she was flawless. She demonstrated why she is still considered one of the great singers of our time. She interpreted Joni Mitchell's songs with her own original and dynamic voice.
