The son of the legendary late comedian Paul Mooney, he, along with his brother, Darryl have a very famous and hilarious comedy act, The Mooney Twins. However, their dad, Paul Mooney was never shy about voicing his displeasure with Hollywood politics, which at times made things difficult for his sons, including an incident that happened during the taping of a cable comedy show.

“We were hired to do the warmup,” he said. “And when we came in to do the warmup the producer brought us in and said ‘you know, we don’t like your father and we’re going to fire you guys.” The experience sharpened them for being prepared for the reality of Hollywood politics.

Despite those travails, the twins got inspiration from their mentor, Dick Gregory. “He was our spiritual father,” said Dwayne. “That’s how influential he was. When we saw him perform at the Comedy Store, there was about 50 people there, mostly White, but they just listened to every word he said. I said, ‘who is this brother?’ I had never seen anything like it.” After seeing Gregory at a show in San Francisco, Dwayne knew that he wanted to be in the comedy circles. “This I what I want to do,” he said. “Telling jokes with serious information, doing comedy lectures.” They got very close and he recounted a conversation he had with Gregory about the subject matter of his comedy. “We used to debate all the time, we used to have arguments,” he reflected. “Hey Dick, you’re always talking about conspiracy theories and complaining, you’re sitting here living like a king, why don’t you talk about showing people how to make money? He answered, ‘that’s your job (n-word).”

Inspired by Dick Gregory, Dwayne modeled their business after Gregory’s with a parallel purpose in the quest for prosperity. “Dick Gregory was about the Civil Rights of Health,” he said. “We are about the Silver Rights of Self-Improvement. Just a different package, same thing.” From the mentorship of Dick Gregory, who implored them that “whatever you do, take your comedy with you,” The Wealth Portal was born. And they tour the world, giving lectures, often injecting their brand of comedy in their teachings as part of what they do as investment strategists. “So, we’re not limited to standup, in fact, I can’t be a 64-year-old man (I’ll be 65 May 22^nd of this month) I can’t be 65 in a nightclub, trying to make it. I’m past that, I’d already made it- I made more than most comedians made, unless you’re at superstar level and I did it my way, towards using investing to make it happen, basically in the cryptocurrency world.”
