Entertainment — By Buddy Sampson on November 1, 2023 at 6:29 pmFunk. Yes. Glad to inform you that reports of its death has been grossly exaggerated and not dead, by no means. Some of us love an old school, funky groove that we can listen to, or if so inclined, rock the dance floor. Well, if you want to be funked, you must purchase “Café Funk,” the newest release from Backhouse Nation.
Produced by Mbaji, the CEO of Backhouse Nation, the track features Don “The 1” Bell on saxophone, who has performed with the band Lakeside, and has performed with Joe Sample, The Gap Band and The Platters. He’s also the saxophone player on the theme song for “Sex in the City.”
The track also features Toquon Tha MC, a hip-hop artist who has toured the globe, performing in places such as Australia and Dubai. He’s also the been the voice of BET’s Comic View and host of his own podcast show, StacksTV, where he’s interviewed several stars, including Kendrick Lamar and Academy Award winner Danny Glover. Currently he performs with the iconic group, Loose Ends. Also on the track is Scott “Bugs” Allen on bass.
Mbaji, a writer and producer born in Chicago, Illinois formed Backhouse Nation, a production/songwriting conglomeration. Mbaji’s music has been recorded by some of the biggest names in music, including the SOS Band, Donald Byrd, Eddie Kendricks, Erykha Badu and J Dilla.
Available on Spotify, Apple Music, I Tunes, Amazon, Pandora and Deezer, this track is solid proof that funk is still very much alive and breathing. Backhouse Nation wants to put a little funk in your life. So, prepare to be funked.
