BORA, Starring Tiffany Toney, Ajima Cole, Chyna McCoy, and James M. Black, Makes 2023 Essence Film Festival Selection

Actress Tiffany Toney wraps production on her feature film BORA. The multi-hyphenate producer was the writer, director, and lead alongside Sierra Leonne actress, Queen Ajima Cole (Haus of Vicious). The cast also includes Zab Judah, Omar Gooding (Entourage), Noel G (Training Day), Jasmine Sanders (D.L Hughley Show), and the voice of Netflix comedian EARTHQUAKE.

Toney is the niece of Boxing legend James Toney and a former producer & writer for NBC News 4, and America’s Most Wanted. Her recent short film “Jade Rising,” won Best U.S. Sci-Fi in the 2019 Venice Shorts film festival. She recently starred in the number one Tubi Original of 2022, Jungle Juice. She also made an appearance in LAZARUS, the Action Superhero film, by her co-producer Sean Riggs (BOSCH) that led to a multi-picture deal with Samuel Goldwyn Films.

Despite the high production value of BORA, the weight of the production was carried by a team of only three core filmmakers,  which included Toney, her co-director Andre “Chyna” McCoy (The Matrix), and DP, editor, and VFX expert James M. Black (Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers) both of whom also acted in the film. Toney wrote the BORA original screenplay with the intention of creating an outlet to distract her team from the pandemic. “The entire world was in chaos, we didn’t even know where we were going to live, but we knew we were going to make this movie,” said Tiffany Toney.

The story follows Elon, a USC grad-student who sets out on a road trip to find herself on Day of The Dead, when she meets “BORA,” an Afro-Mexican hitchhiker who seduces her down a path of temptation. It’s all fun and games until people start dying. BORA is an “Urban” Urban Legend and the perfect fusion of LA culture… destined to become a cult-classic.”

Among the partnerships that have propelled the momentum of this edgy thriller are associate producers Kenneth Whack, McGrady OG (HOOPTY ENT.) and music composer Jason Betts. Toney recently signed with Tribeca One Distribution and BORA will be screening at the 2023 Essence Film Festival.
