LONG BEACH CA – The Annual Honoring Unsung Fathers Awards and Scholarship Brunch, presented by the Mablean Ephriam Foundation, was held at the Long Beach Hilton Hotel on Father’s Day.  Actress Jenifer Lewis (Think Like a Man) was an entertaining Mistress of Ceremonies. This event honors unsung fathers who are role models in the community and awards scholarships to deserving youth. Singer/songwriter/producer Chante Moore, who came with her father Dr Larry Moore, mesmerized everyone with her vocal performance.  Mike Phillips (sax) and The Band provided great music for the event.

Awardees are: Shahid Elamin – SOLO WARRIOR; Dwayne Orange – LOVE CARES; Emmanuel Pope III- FATHERHOOD FOREVER; Richmond A. Briscoe – VILLAGE DAD; Carl E. Jones married for 50 years and Charles Malone Sr. married 64+ years both received the LIVING LEGACY AWARD. Scholarship recipients are: Taggra Nicole Jackson/Psychology; De Johnette Williams/Speech Therapy; Daijanique Joseph/Political Science & Law; Jazmin Larumbe/Psychology; Arturo Macias/Politics & Italian Studies; Jah-Nika Valdez received the Mablean Ephriam Nursing Scholarship and Re-Jahne Walker-Payne received the Bernice Jones Nursing Scholarship.

Additionally L. Mack Mossett III received the Board of Directors Award, Dr. George McKenna III received the Founder’s Award, and Long Beach resident Ryan King received the H.U.F. 2014 Volunteer of the Year Award.

Celebrity award presenters were Wendell James (OWN Network star of Raising Whitley), Actress Elise Neal, Renee Lawless (Mrs Cryer on Tyler Perry’s The Have & The Have Nots),Cocoa Brown (Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse), Claudette Ortiz (TV1’s R&B Divas LA), and Robert Riley (VH1’s Hit the Floor).
