An Enchanting CD of Love

Yeliana's New CD, "A Few Lives Ago," a tasty mix of Brazilian music meets Russian poetry, is available on I Tunes. Visit her website at www.yelianamusic.com.

Yeliana has outdone herself with her latest CD, “A Few Lives Ago.” In her current project, perhaps her best effort to date, Yeliana shatters musical boundaries, merging Brazilian Jazz and Bossa Nova with Russian and Ukrainian lyrics, inspired by some of Russia’s greatest poets, including Esenin and Tsvetaeva. Her enchanting CD, in which she penned most of the lyrics and music, demonstrates her pure talent-combining her ethereal voice and words over a familiar musical backdrop. Many times, if you purchase a CD, many of the songs are B sides. However, this CD is not one of them.  “A Few Lives Ago” is perfect for easy listening, driving up the coast with a loved one, or sitting at home in front of a fire for pure musical enjoyment. It is a classic.

Yeliana brings considerable musical study and knowledge to her projects. She studied at Odessa Musical College, Odessa State Conservatory and majored in choral conducting and voice at Manhattan School of Music in New York.  She sings a multitude of styles, including jazz, Broadway, Classical and contemporary music with ease. She graced the stage at the International Chamber Music Festival 2005 in Beverly Hills, and was approached by famed director Radion Nahapetov to feature two of her songs on his serial “Russians in the City of Angels.”

But what inspired “A Few Lives Ago?” “I was always a jazz lover, particularly Brazilian jazz,” said Yeliana. “My biggest influence is brilliant Michael Franks. Somebody mentioned to me in the past that my voice would sound great in Brazilian jazz genre, and since then, I always wanted to release an album in such a style. I started to write this album two years ago, adding bossa nova, jazz waltz, lounge, and art songs to my composed material. My new album is a mix of all of these genres.”

“A Few Lives Ago,” captures the spirit of love and romance.  It is a CD that is a wonderful mix of genres and belongs in your collection. Visit Yeliana’s website at www.yelianamusic.com. And prepare to be enchanted.
