Griffin Named Western Conference Player Of The Week

December 15, 2013-  The National Basketball Association today announced that Los Angeles Clippers forwardBlake Griffin has been named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Dec. 16, through Sunday, Dec. 22.  It marks the second time this season Griffin has captured the honor (Nov.11-17) and the third time in his career he has won. Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat was the Eastern Conference winner.

Griffin helped the Clippers to a 4-0 week behind averages of 26.0 points (third in the Western Conference), 11.3 rebounds (ninth in the conference) and 3.3 assists. He posted at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in three games and shot 49 percent (35 of 67 FG) from the field and 87.5 percent (35 of 40 FT) from the free throw line for the week. On Dec. 16, Griffin tallied 27 points and nine rebounds in a 115-92 win over the San Antonio Spurs and on Dec. 22 he collected 32 points, 10 rebounds and four steals during a 120-116 overtime win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Atlanta’s Al Horford, Charlotte’s Kemba Walker, Golden State’s Stephen Curry, Los Angeles Clippers’ Chris Paul, Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, Portland’s Damian Lillard, Toronto’s Kyle Lowry and Washington’s  John Wall.
