“The Game” first appeared April 2006 as an episode on “Girlfriends” introducing Melanie Barnett (Tia Mowry Hardrict) as the cousin of Joan Clayton (Tracee Ellis Ross of “Girlfriends”). Joan tries to encourage Melanie to pursue her medical career rather than putting it on hold to support the football career of her boyfriend Derwin Davis (Pooch Hall). On October 1, 2006, the CW Network decided to launch “The Game” as a series. Created by executive producer Mara Brock Akil and directed by her husband Salim Akil, the series ran for 3 successful seasons. Cancellation of “The Game” in May 2009 resulted in an outcry from fans, prompting BET to negotiate with CBS to pick it up. This is historic for a series to come back with the original cast after being off the air for nearly 2 years.

Fans old and new are in for some real eye-opening dramady this season! Derwin (Pooch Hall) is married to Doctor Melanie (Tia Mowry Hardrict) and he has a young son DJ (Isley Anderson) by his ex-girlfriend Janay (Gabrielle Dennis). Tasha Mack (Wendy Raquel Robinson) is dating a younger man played by “106 & Park’s” Terrence J and her son Malik (Hosea Chanchez) is tipping around with a married woman played by Megan Good. Newly divorced Kelly Pitts (Brittany Daniel) has a reality show and Jason Pitts (Coby Bell) is being Jason. Tee Tee (Barry Floyd) , Malik’s former assistant, has his own business. Series premiere is Tuesday, January 11 on BET, check local listings for broadcast time. Hold on to your seats!

Joining the Tuesday night line-up is “Let’s Stay Together,” a romantic comedy created by executive producer Jacque Edmonds Cofer. Cofer also wrote the successful “Martin” series starring Martin Lawrence. Bert Belasco and Nadine Ellis play an engaged couple, Erica Hubbard who formerly starred in “Lincoln Heights” is navigating the world of dating, and Joyful Drake and RonReaco Lee are managing the ups and downs of marriage. The series premiere is also on Tuesday, January 11 with a cameo appearance by Eva Marcille (Top Model Winner).
