Warren Eckstein-His Hugs And Kisses Animal Fund Foundation Seeks To Fund Small Animal Rescue Organizations

Warren Eckstein is fully aware of his station in life. Considered one of the best pet experts in the world, his clients have included former President Ford, David Letterman, Lily Tomlin, Geraldine Ferraro,  Al Pacino, Cheryl Tiegs and Rodney Dangerfield. “He was one of the nicest guys,” said Eckstein about Dangerfield. “He loved his animal and one of the funniest lines I ever heard was when he said to me, ‘Talk about no respect, Warren, my dog closes his eyes before he humps my leg.”  Warren, however, loves and respects all animals regardless of the stature of his clients. “The one thing is that no matter who you are, whether you’re a president, a vice-presidential candidate or just Joe who lives in West Hollywood with a Schnauzer, when you’re talking about your pet with someone who loves pets, everyone is on the same level,” he said.” Warren’s station and life’s mission is to care for animals; to teach them, educate them, and to teach their owners most importantly, to love your pets “as part of the family.”

He’s served on the Board of Directors for several of the largest humane and rescue organizations in the country. Many of those organizations, however, are overwhelmed, leaving a large percentage of animals to be cared for by what Eckstein calls “mom and pop” groups, who raise money by garage sales and other means. “These are the ones that sit outside of Petco or PetSmart(sp) to adopt a few dogs or the ones that have that occasional auction to raise money, these are the people that are out there every day, really walking the walk,” he explained. The Hugs and Kisses Foundation, a 501(c) organization founded by Eckstein in memory of his wife Fay, who died in 1990, is devoted to funding several small domestic and international animal organizations that are advocates for pets and their care.  “We’re kind of focusing on becoming like The United Way for pets as we grow,” he explained. “And what’s going to separate us, is that we’re never going to be a rich foundation, because when the money comes in, it is going to immediately go out and help the people that really need it, the people that really help the animals.”

His love for pets began in Long Lsland, NY. Warren was a shy youngster, and found an affinity with animals. “I grew up in a typical Jewish household, where there was never less than 15 people hanging in my house, which drove me absolutely crazy,” he laughed. “Behind my house on Long Island was a little creek and in that creek were Canada geese, ducks, muskrats and rats and snapping turtles. So whenever I just had enough with the people in my house, I just went directly into that area in the swamp and hung out with the animals. I’ve always felt more comfortable being around animals than people.”

Some of Warren’s experiences have placed him with animals and creatures, not found in a typical household. “When I first came back from overseas, (he served in the military) and I first started establishing my reputation, I was doing a lot of television commercials,” said Warren. “I remember being called to do a TV commercial with eight chimpanzees dressed in Bill Blass suits.”  The personable pet expert has also served as the creature keeper for “The New Mickey Mouse Club” and worked with paparazzi stars, such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilar and Justin Timberlake. “Every week, or every other week, I would go to Orlando, Florida and we’d do a bunch of segments and I’d bring on lizards and bring on snakes, ” said Eckstein, who holds a degree in Psychology and studied in Frankfurt, Germany, which gave him the experience of working with some of the top animal trainers in the world. “I’d go in the Living Seas tank with the sharks and the dolphins and show it to The Mouseketeers, so I’ve had the opportunity of working with just about every type of animal.”

Warren’s recognition as a renowned pet guru has made him a into television icon. No longer, the shy, introverted kid in Long Island, he became a popular fixture on ABC-TV’s Regis and Kathee Lee Show. “For years and years and years, I’ve been working with animals in the New York area and before Regis became really popular in New York, there was a local show, just a New York show called “Good Morning New Yorker, AM New York,” said Warren Eckstein. “Regis was the host and there was a co-host at the time. They called me in as a guest and I guess, the segment was very successful.” The show, slated to be sold nationally, featured Eckstein’s appearance. “They put me on the demo reel and then I just started doing a show and for fourteen years I was their pet and animal expert. I had a very successful run,” he said. Eckstein later migrated to NBC, where he enjoyed a successful stint on The Today Show for 10 years. But alas, Eckstein, a California resident, after a period of time, realized that commuting from the west coast to the east coast had taken a toll on him. “When American Airlines sent me a note that said I’ve flown over two million miles, I said, ‘that’s enough, buddy,'” he laughed.”I was going back to New York on the average of least 5 to 6 times a month. So that was just way too much travelling.” Additionally, Warren, a favorite of the video generation, worked with MTV when MTV was in its inception. He also has found himself involved with all kinds of training situations with animals, including disasters. “I did a lot of work on 9/11 with some of the New York City Police K-9 units,” he explained.

The Foundation has several members on its team that are as passionate about animals as Warren. Yvette Burke, Executive Director, contributes much of her time to the Foundation, as well as Vice President Jan Murree and Trustees, Denise Madden(Warren’s wife) and Carrie Aikman. Currently, Eckstein is working on a television show and DVD series with producer Lisa Hutchison/ Of Like Mind Productions. Hutchison is also passionate about animals and their well being and works tirelessly for animal rights. Their Advisory Board includes various television icons such as Tony Dow, best known as “Wally” on the “Leave It To Beaver” series, Tom Arnold and Michael Rosenbaum, of the show “Smallville,” among others.

Warren Eckstein’s radio show, The Pet Show, can be found in several markets, including KRLA, 870 AM in Los Angeles and KTIE 590 AM in San Bernardino and Riverside between 11AM-1PM on Saturdays. “At 1PM, I start my national show, which is in 135 cities including Canada, The Virgin Islands and six stations in Hawaii,” said Eckstein. “It covers a lot of areas of California, like San Jose and Sacramento. Some people listen in Ventura County, Palm Springs, so we have 135 affiliates now.”

On August 8th, The Hugs and Kisses Animal Fund will hold its first annual benefit at The Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City at 6PM. The event will feature comedian Elayne Boosler, The Buzz Maddox Band, The Swing Dolls, Magician Jon Armstrong, and Roslyn Kind (Barbra Streisand’s sister) among others. Warren Eckstein loves and respects animals. “I believe I was put here for one reason and one reason only,” said Warren Eckstein.”To spend less time with my family and more time with animals.”  Animals bring joy to households everywhere. • Most of the time I can personally tell; however, it all depends on the replica. I mean, I see so many knock-off Coach, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton bags, when the C’s in Coach are backwards, the handles on the LV bags are different colors, and the double C’s in the Chanel logo are off. I’d much rather save up for the real thing than to have fakes for numerous obvious reasons, such as quality. But then again, there are some replicas that can cost up to 500 bucks, and it’s sometimes nearly impossible to spot the differences between that and the real thing.

  • If I was you , I would search on Ebay . Many a time I have searched ebay to identify unknown to me objects. It should be easy to key in FENDI and look at all the watches to match the one you lost. Good Luck !

  • Right up until not too long ago, numerous Southern and some Wonderful Plains says banned the sale of sex toys totally, each directly or via laws regulating “obscene gadgets.”

  • You think that’s bad? I went to Salou a couple of years ago, and Stansted was bulging with people wearing Super Dry and Henley’s t-shirts and hoodies, especially the ones going to the costa del sol and Barcelona. Laughed at your take on middle-age women reading Martina Cole, while looking around sneakily to see if they are being watched, or even ‘admired’ (you’ve got it to a T), and what makes it worse, they plaster on make up, taken out of a ‘bum’ Gucci bag. I always thought the Spanish smile at us out of respect when we pass through a check out in their country. Who knows – it may be, but I bet they have a phrase all their own when dealing with the weirdies who are wearing their fake Rolexes and Armani gear!

  • Another superb article..I like this one above all All the best in the future..

  • The railing on my back deck is glass panels set into grooves in the posts and a plastic-coated galvanized cable (about 1/4 inch thick) along the top. It was that way when I bought the house years ago and I think it looks fine.

  • I had the same problem. I looked into Dynomat but it costs more than I wanted to invest. I went to Walmart and bought shelf liner. It king of looks like mesh and feels like rubber. It costs around $1.00 per roll. It works pretty well.

  • i’m not sure what i’m looking at inthe picture, but the glossy effect in the picture is from coatings of clearcoat, polishes and waxes, not the paint.

consider a range of colors that include pink. Pink is a color that dates kitchens but is considered retro which is fine. I would also think in terms of wines, burgundys and deep blues and greens with bright pink. A really neat trick is to go find wallpaper BORDERS or wall decorations and go with the color scheme in there.

  • Discovering the perfect cover covers could be comforting and refreshing. Sleeping on a comfortable bed and also the best cover cover set is what each and every particular person seems forward to immediately after a long day from work, college or play.

  • The kind of abductor who has been watching the family come and go and what time they go to bed and what time the parents go to eat.. We all know what they did was wrong yes they should be punished but like i said before they are going to live with this for the rest of their lives. These sick people who watch kids and take them are like vultures. I dont know how old you are or if you have any children but I have and the pain of loosing her would be unbearable.

  • You are right. Serta did not include the coil count in its specifications. But since it is a firm mattress, it should have no less than 150 coils. That is an ideal choice for a baby mattress.

  • Q: What do you get when you cross an Arab with a Mexican? A: Oil of Ole’

  • memory foam lasts longer than down filled pads. my brothers memory foam padding outlasted my down filled padding. i dont know about the egg-carton style though.

  • the most highly recommended mattress by chropractors and orthpedic surgeons is the Restronic. not quite sure of the price range — but i have had mine for 15 years and can still sleep like the dead. before the restronic it was years of tossing, turning, wakeing up completely (always using sleeping pills just to get a couple of hours rest) to find a comyf spot. tried everything, different doctors, others who had back pain like i do and everyone leaned toward the restronic. i kept using my sleeping pills for about 2 weeks before i realized i didn’t need them any more. lol. so go to the closest mattress place and try one out – you’ll be happy and you will know it immediately. (don’t look at brand names – just tell the shop-keeper to show you about 6 mattresses – to include the restronic, without telling you the name of the mattress) your body will know it right away.

  • Actually, my pediatrician told me the firmer the better. If the mattress is too soft, they could suffocate and they aren’t like us, we are accustomed to soft things because it is what we are used to. I have been sleeping on a firm mattress my whole life and soft ones are very uncomfortable for me. It doesn’t feel like cement and I’m sure they will be fine but if you feel it is way too firm talk to your husband about it. I think it would be fine though, I don’t think your baby would mind especially since you’ll have sheets and stuff on it anyway. Good luck.

I don’t believe the handbag brands make good watches, they are only for look and show but not for eternal use. If you want a watch that works well, why don’t you stick with the watch brands such as movado, raymond wiels, citizen, seiko or rolex.

  • Wow!! This girl is a complete idiot… I would have been totally greatful no completely appreciative to have got those wonderful gifts for christmas. What the heck, did she want?? To have thought what you got her was crap… After what she did to you and your sisters I don’t think you should be talking to her again let alone telling her where all your other family members live unless you have samething against them then it would be a good way for you to get back at them (j/k honestly) Not all girls are like that just look at your sisters. You obviously being the great guy that you are (for that wonderful stuff you got your g/f) I’m sure your sisters were raised the same way you where. So when ever you have doubts about the female species just take a good look at your sisters and know that there is a great girl out there somewhere for you….

  • It frightens me that you counted all these clothing items out, and categorized them by brand. It honestly makes you seem like a poser who just wants to impress. How about you go out and buy whatever the hell you like and not worry about brand names, huh?

  • stop trying to get people to like you for how much stuff you have I dout you actually have all that and have all of it fit, your not cool stop trying to be.

  • you definitely should not put them in bathrooms as it is very illegal, you can put cameras anywhere on YOUR property just as long as they aren’t pointing into someones bedroom across the street, they must serve some security pupose and not spying. as for telling your employees you should tell them about the cameras so there not to do anything stupid or just to work all day and not slack off, I think you can keep one or two cameras secret if they are in place for temporary situations if you trying to figure out who stole something.

  • I don’t usually post comments, but I will in this case. Thanks for the post. I look forward to reading more

  • Well, logically – no business could afford (except Las Vegas) to have full time watchers – but some one may always have the opportunity to sit down and watch for awhile. The cashiers have a way to signal the office that something is amiss, and all the entrances and exits have full recordings going at all times. If there is any problems they can track misbehavior’s down. Some stores keep recordings for over a year. Management and security will claim that they have recordings of Employees stealing – this is a ruse to get them to leave without any fuss. (like suing store for unlawful termination)

  • Wal-Mart is a joke. They have security but it is not turned on and is most definitely not monitored. Remember that they just lost lots of money for the lawsuit in Pensylvania for labor abuse. They were trying to treat us like they treat the Chinese, were labor is almost free. They are not monitoring those cameras. 5 of the Waltons are the richest people in America and do not possible want every one else get ahead. They claim to be saving us over $2000 each year selling us those Chinese trinkets….Woooooo hooooooo…..P.S. I hate Wal-mart….Pass it on

  • We got our CCTV security system – SWANN from Maplins – it cost about £400 this includes a small computer screen (hardrive) that tapes 24 hours a day 7 days a week continuous. The price also includes one camera but you can buy further cameras (up to 4). It is excellent, we have cameras at the front, side and rear of our house. Colour cameras are best as the picture is much clearer You need to ensure that you also have a security light so pictures are clear at night too. It is easy and simple to install. Don’t forget, you must put up CCTV warning signs if a camera is filming on a public area.

  • England has these cameras up in most places already and they’ve been used to great advantage in fighting crime as well as preventing violent behavior. I believe most Americans would love to have a little more security. Additionally, privacy is not a right guaranteed under God or the Constitution.

Seriously – good blog, just searching around some web sites, seems to be a truly nice platform you’re using. I’m presently utilizing WordPress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to some platform very much the same to yours as a test run.

  • Don’t bother fixing it. The cost of labor and the parts will be almost the same price as getting a new one. Getting a new one will also come with a 1 year guarrantee

  • well i have that kind of camera and i dont have a usb cord there should be a chip where your batteries are at right nest to it and then u put the chip in the chip hole of the computer

  • Never had the same model but yes I owned other coolpix. It’s above average camera but if you can get a Canon for the same price then get a Canon instead.

  • Find a local authorized repair center from the link below and get a FREE estimate for the repair. If it’s going to cost too much, it might be time to get a new camera (of course depending on the model you have right now).

  • I would only suggest that if you want a somewhat useless point and shoot. the high mega pixels is useless since the 3x optical zoom wont give you much to use that 7.1 for anyway. if it uses digital zoom it will make the picture blurring kind of eliminating the 7.1 MP. if you want a good digital camera look for ones with a high optical zoom (10-12x).that will give you good pictures for your money
